I hate hate hate this Village!
Then there are the building inspections! My boyfriend was given a list of things to repair on his house. Obediently, he took care of all the problems and didn't expect anything else. Weeks later, he was given a new list of issues that the inspector claimed he mentioned on his first trip (but never did), and told him if it wasn't completed by the end of the weekend (it was Saturday morning at the time), he would face hefty fines.
I just went here to vote for the primary election no big deal.
The judge then had the AUDACITY to yell, yes yell, at me for not taking care of the ticket in advance, even though I tried.
My first issue with this neighborhood was when I got pulled over and ticketed for having a brake light out. For two months I called City Hall every day to find out how to take care of this ticket. Nobody ever answered and I ended up having to attend the court date.
Court dates in this town are seen on a first-come, first-serve basis, but it says that nowhere on the ticket. Since I only showed up 5 minutes before the listed time, it took almost 3 hours to see the judge.
What else? Oh, he had friends over to play board games. I arrived later than everyone else and was stopped by a police officer on my way in. Given the amount of cars and lack of noise, he decided people must be doing drugs in the house and tried to get information out of me implying that something illegal was happening. He asked if I would let him in the house. As I am not the homeowner, I declined and he left in a huff. Sorry dude, nothing illegal was going on in there, just a bunch of nerds playing games.
I think Bel-Nor feels great antipathy toward students at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and a lot of their nonsense is directed at discouraging students from coming into or through the neighborhood. This seems odd to me since I am sure that the University's presence enhances the area and helps maintain property values.
Yes, the neighborhood is decent and the houses are beautiful. But unless you hide in your house and don't do anything to seem unique, you will be harassed by the police.
My boyfriend lives in the neighborhood, and as a responsible pet owner, I bring my dog with me when I spend the night. Even though he's not a pit bull, I have been harassed multiple times by the police because he looks like a pit bull. Thanks to the neighborhood's idiotic, discriminatory breed legislation, my poor pit bull lookalike cannot go out of the house without a muzzle, a $100,000 homeowners insurance addendum, registration and tags from the Village of Bel-Nor (even though he's registered and has his tags from the city), and proof of all this information every time we want to walk around the block. Not to mention the fact that the first time I was harassed, my well-behaved dog sat patiently but wagging his tail wanting to play with this new person and the officer told me if I don't keep my "wild dog" under control, he would. Threatening violence against my sweet dog is unnecessary; he's never going to hurt a soul.
Bel-Nor has terrible streets, full of ruts and potholes! When they do anything to try to eliminate potholes, the work is done so poorly that the potholes reappear within months and are worse than ever. They also have lots of those obnoxious speed bumps.
Awesome place to live!
