All the reviews sum this place up rather well. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. If you have a Subaru, this is the place to take it! Will be a consistent customer. Be aware that they do have a wait list.
Hauled my 2004 Forester in on a tow truck. Picked up a week and a half later with engine replacement and transmission work for less than quoted. Incredibly fast and friendly service. Best shop experience I have ever had. Thanks again guys!
At this point, I went to the other owner and explained the situation. He admitted their alignment rack was no-good, and the other guy had probably just eye-balled the alignment. He brought the car to another garage and had them do the alignment, at which point the car drove normally again. He didn't charge me for the service, but I had already paid for an alignment and 2 tires, lost a bunch of time at work to deal with these problems, and my winter set of tires had also been affected by misalignment at this point. Also, at one of these visits, they broke off the clutch pedal stopper and didn't say anything about it.
1 Year later i decide to change the clutch out to an OEM style clutch. Upon removing the transmission from the vehicle, the new mechanic sees a destroyed rear engine mount. The mount is completely separated from itself. This could have been a decent part of my noise issues. The mechanic tells me there is no way this wasn't seen last year. I have only put 9,000 miles on this clutch from last year. We decide to change the clutch anyways since the engagement noise is there. ( Job took this guy 5.5 hours to complete. Just FYI)
Ecotech has worked on my '03 VW GTI and '01 BMW 325i since about May 2013. I used to think they did a good job, but my impression of them has changed over the last year, and I won't be going to them for service any more.
The first problem I had with them was the alignment was way off after a ball joint replacement. I brought the car back in and told the guy who worked on it (one of the owners of the garage) that there was a problem. He test drove the car and basically said it was fine and I didn't know what I was talking about. It was obviously not fine. I asked him to please do an alignment, which I paid $80 for, and the alignment was still so bad that the car was basically driving off the road on the highway. I brought it back in again, and asked the same guy to fix it again. He gave me a lot of BS, said the only way to fix it was to do an aggressive toe-in on the front wheels. I told him to do what he needed to do to fix the problem. He did the toe-in, which didn't fix the problem, and after driving about 9 months on what were almost new tires, the front two tires were destroyed by the toe-in and misalignment, and had to be replaced.
I went to this shop for the positive reviews and people having good remarks towards them. Even a co worker of mine recommended them. I am sad i had to learn a 1,500.00 lesson and learn to just take my car to places where i have mechanics i know. If i was a normal patron i wouldnt have had my own parts to install, but i hope ECOTECH would inform the normal patron of other possible issues like this.
Thought I could trust a local shop (Affton Muffler and Brake Stop) with a simple exhaust job which they ended up screwing up and costing me over 300$. Took it here (where I should have in the first place) and they took care of it no problem. Asked a billion questions over Facebook and worrying about stuff I shouldn't and they didn't seem annoyed by it.
Clutch engagement noises ( squeeling noise , usually associated with metal on metal contact. I.E Brakes needing to be changed). Noise while in gear and decelerating. Noise while in gear and high RPM.
My point is i should have been informed of this last year when ECOTECH had my car on a lift. Even a cracked mount should have been told to me, let alone put on my receipt for a heads up.
Reason for my 3 out of 5. I cannot fault them for doing what i asked, a clutch job. What i am faulting them for , is not informing me my engine mount was toast a year ago. Also for not adjusting my clutch pedal when i picked up my vehicle. I had to have that done by a friend. I am not sure what i could have done extra to prevent this becoming a 3 star review. Was i suppose to check over my engine with a fine tooth comb to make sure no bolts were left out, or if my pilot bushing was replaced or not, of if my engine mounts are showing signs of wear and need replacement....
Then when i drove away, i felt like my car wasn't sounding the same. I had a few extra rattle noises. Mainly 3 noises occurred after the install of my new clutch.
I gave them another chance since I liked the other owner, but the next major work I brought it in for was no better. I needed a new blower motor and controller, and I was having an issue with water in the rear passenger foot well. They replaced the blower motor and put in new gaskets on the rear doors. The new blower motor makes a buzzing noise that is really annoying, and a piece of trim was put back in incorrectly, which resulted in the paint being scratched when the driver door is opened. When I called to talk to the owner about it, I was told he was busy, and I left a message. My call was never returned.
I'm not sure what went wrong with Ecotech. They used to be good, but I can't trust them to touch my cars any more.
First i want to say i was pleased with the Customer Service side of this business. I called and asked to use my own supplied parts for a clutch job on my Acura TSX. They got me scheduled, told me a rough estimate in price, and got the car in and out in a timely manner.
Poor job on the mechanic, and that is what we trust these people for. Honest work. Would the mechanic let this motor mount slide if this vehicle belonged to someone in their family?
I knew that if i called and complained about these issues, i would have been answered with " Well you brought us the parts to use" excuse every other shop wants to use. I get it , trust me i do. I dont expect them to admit fault for a job that took them " 10 hours ".
